Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It is without any agenda other than being with loved ones and being, well..... thankful. Since my audience usually has a pretty advanced palate (I love my foodie family), I usually try to change things up from year to year. But there are always a few tried and true favorites that stick like the Turkey recipe below. Here's my menu for this year's Thanksgiving.
May yours be relaxing and delicious.
GRILLED BUTTERFLIED TURKEY WITH ROSEMARY GARLIC GRAVY
This turkey recipe was love at first taste in 2009 and has become our new tradition ever since. I cannot stress how easy, tender and delicious this is. Brining yourself with all the flavors makes all the difference.
The gravy recipe is a variation on one that I have been making for several years with my dear friend Donna. Each year she and I spend an afternoon the week before Thanksgiving making the base. It stores well and saves time on Thanksgiving day. It is Donna's family recipe so I can't share all the secrets, but the flavors in this similar recipe compliment the turkey and potatoes perfectly.
BLISTERED GREEN BEANS WITH TOMATO-ALMOND PESTO
Green beans are my favorite green vegetable. There are rumors in my family that as a small child I would pick green beans as my preferred snack over ice cream. Each year I like to try a new variation on a green been dish.
SOUR CREAM MASHED POTATOES WITH PAPRIKA
No Thanksgiving is complete without a great dish of Mashed Potatoes.
SWEET POTATO & BEET GALETTE WITH GORGONZOLA CHEESE & THYME
This recipe by Bakeaholic Mama is definitely one I want to try this year. It can be used as a side dish or dessert depending on your overall menu.
My father's favorite. No holiday in my house is complete without a Blueberry Pie. The James Beard recipe shared below has been the base for our family's version for years. It's simple in preparation but complex in flavor.
The Thanksgiving staple!
